日本鳥学会では4年ごとに開かれる国際鳥類学会議（IOC）で発表する若手会員に伊藤基金から費用の一部を補助している。2006年8月にドイツのハンブルクで開催された第24回会議に向けては9名の応募があり、厳正な審査の結果、次の2名に各15万円の補助金が交付された。二人の参加報告については日本鳥学会誌第55巻第2号を参照のこと。

発表タイトル：Seasonal contact through migration between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere populations of Little Tern Sterna albifrons inensis - Does it cause gene flow?

齋藤武馬氏（立教大学理学研究科）

発表タイトル：Deep phylogeographical divergences among Far Eastern populations of the widely distributed Arctic Warbler Phylloscopus borealis.

なお、今回の選考にあたっては、基金運営委員会の下に設けられた選考小委員会において発表内容（Abstract）の独創性・意義・論理性・充実度を中心に評価し、補助金の必要性と過去5年間の発表論文を加味して候補者を絞った。これらの手順は文書化され、今後も踏襲されることになっている。
